Here it is, a few days before the big holiday, and your shopping list is still pretty long. But you’re not worried — you’re at your best when you’re under pressure.
And now, you can arm yourself with our 2017 Retail Reputation Report, which is loaded with helpful information for shoppers about top retailers in the U.S.
Just in time for holiday shopping madness, the report ranks top national retailers in categories such as value, service, wait time and convenience, among others. We analyzed more than 400,000 online reviews on Google and Facebook to learn about the in-store shopping experience at 28 marquee retailers.
The results may help you map out a lower-stress holiday shopping experience:
Need to get in and out of stores really quickly? LEGO and Abercrombie & Fitch both got perfect 5-star ratings for parking, facilities and amenities.
Don’t want to wait in line? LEGO, Lululemon, Disney Store and Nordstrom Rack scored the highest for short wait times.
Prefer more personalized attention? Shoppers ranked Disney (4.6 stars), LEGO (4.4 stars), Nike (3.9 stars) and Nordstrom (3.7 stars) as best in customer service.

For the Fashionista
Almost everybody has clothes on their lists, and if you want to start out with a big success, hit TJ Maxx first. They rank the highest among discount retailers for value (4.3), and among the highest for convenience (3.9) — and they have departments for every age group.
If you’ve got kids and teens to shop for, quality merchandise at reasonable prices await at Old Navy and Justice. They received value ratings of 3.7 and 3.6, respectively.
Shopping for a yoga fanatic? Say “Ohm!” If you’ve got the money, Athleta and Lululemon are excellent choices for the female fitness guru on your list, with overall ratings of 4.39 and 4.38, respectively. For true sports fans, Nike offers an expansive selection of sportswear — and they scored a rating of 3.9 for service — the highest among sportswear retailers.
Want help putting together the perfect outfit for someone special? Nordstrom won’t disappoint with their legendary customer service and shorter-than-average check-out times — for which the retailer earned 3.7 and 3.4 ratings. You may come away feeling lighter in the wallet, but you’ll be satisfied with your experience and your purchase — and probably a little less stressed.
Need LEGOs? You’re in Luck!
Toy and baby stores earned four of the top ten slots in the study. The LEGO Store came out on top, with 4+ stars in eight out of nine categories we measured. Disney Store ranked second in the study, and Carter’s and OshKosh B’Gosh ranked sixth and ninth, respectively.
If you prefer one-stop shopping — stores like Toys”R”Us offer a broad selection of toys and games under one roof — be prepared for longer wait times and less-than-stellar customer service. Also, that special toy is more likely to be out of stock — especially this late in the season. Call ahead before venturing into the mayhem.
Home Improvement for the Holidays
Whether you’re looking to complete some honey-do’s in January or shopping for the fixer-upper in your family, Home Depot is a good choice. It ranked highest among home improvement stores in our study, with a customer service rating of 3.3 and an overall rating of 3.75.
Be sure to check their inventory in advance, as their product availability may be uncertain this late in the game.
