On Wednesday, we proudly launched our free Facebook privacy application, PrivacyDefender. Today, we’re happy to report that PrivacyDefender has received coverage in both VentureBeat and AllFacebook.com, the web’s “Unofficial Facebook Resource.”
Both articles discuss how PrivacyDefender works and offer compelling examples why many Facebook users will find our app is easier to use than Facebook’s internal controls.
Quoting from the VentureBeat article:
“Reputation.com’s privacy app works best for people who don’t need a lot of granular control by suggesting that users keep almost of their information accessible to only their friends. Facebook, by contrast, has defaults that make users’ bios, status updates, photos, posts, family and relationships entirely public.”
Quoting from the AllFacebook article:
“The idea is pretty straight forward: make it easy for Facebook users to control their privacy settings. For those users who aren’t very savvy with managing Facebook privacy settings, this tool could be extremely useful.”
To try out PrivacyDefender for yourself, just follow this link. If you have any problems installing the application, or if you don’t think it’s running correctly, please feel free to let us know here at the Reputation.com Blog.

I have my Facebook privacy settings at the top security level yet I went onto Yelp and my Facebook profile popped onto the page as well as some of my friend’s profiles. How did they know who I was? Same thing on Pandora. Is there a list of websites that Facebook has partnered with and given our profile information to?

Hi Mia,
A month and a half ago, Facebook announced something called the “Instant Personalization Project,” which connected user accounts with three approved partners: Pandora, Microsoft Docs, and Yelp.
It is possible to turn off the Instant Personalization feature on your profile. Please check out our How To Guide to Facebook Privacy Settings to learn how to remove your information from Facebook’s partner websites.
Best regards,
Rob
