It is scary that HR professionals are checking out on-line information of job applicants. If the 70% rejected applicants is across borders, then it is scarier.

Is there anything that can be done to prompt people who go on-line that they must be careful with their online reputation?

I read sometimes ago that some are of the opinion that information obtained online should not carry much weight in employment.

What are the opinions / findings of psychologists and behaviorists? Does the information (words) tell prospective employers that a person is or is not good employee material?
