Reputation.com Secures $8.65 Million in Series B Funding Led By Bessemer Venture Partners and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers

World’s First Online Reputation and Privacy Management Company Plans to Accelerate Product Development and Engineering Operations; Appoints Former Comcast VP as Chief Marketing Officer

Redwood City, Calif. – January 12, 2009 – Reputation.com, the first comprehensive online reputation and privacy management company, today announced that it has secured $8.65 million in Series B funding led by Bessemer Venture Partners and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers to expand its product development, engineering and senior team. David Cowan, partner at Bessemer Venture Partners, and Ted Schlein, managing partner at Kleiner Perkins, will join the Company’s Board of Directors with Mike Maples, managing partner at Maples Investments, and Michael Fertik, CEO and Founder of Reputation.com.

Reputation.com is the pioneer and global leader of a growing market geared toward helping consumers accurately represent themselves online as search and user-generated content continue to dominate the Web. The round of financing by Bessemer and Kleiner Perkins validates the company’s aim of providing all consumer segments — including professionals, small business owners, students, social Web enthusiasts, parents and more – with solutions to control their online reputations and protect against Internet stalking, identity theft/impersonation and other online threats.

“The Internet is a utility for every life transaction, but it also threatens privacy and personal reputation. The explosion of consumer content on social channels like Facebook and search has awakened people to the reality that they need a way to control what’s being said about them online,” said Michael Fertik. “With the experience and support of Bessemer and Kleiner Perkins, we can continue to make huge strides in improving and developing our products.”

Reputation.com helps professionals grow their businesses online and improves job seekers’ chances of gaining employment by moving relevant content to the top of Google results. Reputation.com also helps parents stay informed of their child’s whereabouts online, and is quickly becoming the next step in identity management by removing its customers’ personal identifiable information from Internet databases.

“If you haven’t Googled yourself, you’re simply not paying attention to how your name, address, resume, relationships and conversations are published — or suppressed — in ways that don’t serve you,” commented David Cowan of Bessemer Venture Partners. “Information security today must evolve from protecting our hard drives to protecting our identities, and that’s why we’re delighted to join the leading venture in this field.”

The company also announced that Terrence Sweeney, an accomplished subscription marketer and branding expert, joined the company as Chief Marketing Officer to oversee brand strategy and marketing. Previously, Sweeney was Vice President of Multi-Product Marketing & Competitive Strategy for Comcast Corporation. Prior to Comcast, he was VP of Marketing at Sirius Satellite Radio in its start-up phase as well as the Director of Advertising & Communications for British Airways. He has also worked at a number of global marketing agencies including BBDO, Saatchi & Saatchi and TPMG Media Innovation, where he managed branding, advertising, media and promotions for clients like Gillette, FedEx, HBO, Dish Network and General Mills.

Ted Schlein of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers commented, “We were attracted to Reputation.com not only because it is creating an exciting new category, but because it has a talented management team in place, one with the vision and leadership to seize this massive market opportunity.”
